About the Office

For administrative convenience, Chandigarh is divided into three Sub Divisions i.e. East, South and Central. The office of Sub Divisional Magistrate (Central) is located in the Estate Office Building, First Floor, Sector-17, Chandigarh. The jurisdiction area of SDM(C) consists are as under:-
Sectors - 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12,14,15,16,17,22,23,24,25
Villages - Kaimbwala, Khuda Alisher, Khuda Lahora, Khuda Jassu, Sarangpur and Dhanas

The SDM(C) discharges the following responsibilities:-
1. In-charge of law and order within its jurisdiction under overall supervision of the District Magistrate.
2. To entertain and decide cases u/s 107/150, 107/151, 133, 145 PF Cr.P.C.
3. To entertain and decide cases of building violation & misuse and cases under PP Act 1971.
4. Issuance of Caste Certificates (SC & OBC).
5. Issuance of various certificates (Minority Certificate, Residence Certificates, Nationality Certificate).
6. Give permissions for late registration of birth and death, change of parents name in birth certificate in adoption cases and Late birth entry in adoption cases.
7. Give permission to use of loudspeaker.
8. Work relating to printing presses, publication, newspapers and filing of declarations.
9. Solemnization and registration of special marriages under special marriage Act 1954.

The SDM(C) being ex-officio collector also issues legal heir and solvency certificates to the residents of U.T, Chandigarh.
